New website and visual identity for Växjö Montessori

Växjö Montessori School is a small school from in central Växjö. When we were commissioned to develop a new website, the focus was on showcasing the school’s warm and personal character right from the very first visit, and on making it easy for parents and carers to find what they were looking for, from the school’s educational approach to the application process. The school has also been given a new graphic identity to tie together its website and other communications and strengthen its visual brand.

A new visual identity

We began the project by developing a visual identity for Växjö Montessori School, building on the brand’s existing strengths. We have retained the bird from the school’s existing logo and made it a clear symbol of its identity.

The colour palette is playful and based on soft shades of green, yellow and blue, giving the school a warm and inviting feel. The typeface has been modernised compared to the one previously used. The colour choices and typography have been developed with accessibility in mind, focusing on legibility and clear contrasts.

Everything has been brought together in a graphic identity that the school can use in its internal and external communications, ensuring that the entire brand is cohesive.

A clear path from the first visit to the application process

The school’s strength lies in its small size: everyone is noticed and all the adults know all the children. We wanted the website to convey this from the very first visit, whilst also making it easy to find what you’re looking for.

Navigation is one of the most important aspects of a website. A parent or carer looking for a school wants to quickly understand what sort of school it is and how it operates. If they can’t find what they’re looking for, they risk leaving the site before they’ve had a chance to see what the school stands for. That’s why we built the website around the questions a parent or carer would ask: what sort of school is this, and how do you run the school?

The homepage serves as a gateway to the school’s four main sections: About Us, Primary School, After-School Care and Pupil Wellbeing. At the same time, we have restructured the menu to help visitors find their way around, and have also included a clear ‘Apply Now’ link in the header. We have also worked on the links between pages, so that visitors are directed to related content without having to go via the menu.

The website is accessible (WCAG 2.2 AA), so that more people can access the content regardless of their circumstances.

A tool that the school itself can administrate

The website is built using WordPress with the Avada theme, which makes it easy for the school to update content, publish news and further develop the site over time. We take care of operations and system administration, ensuring that the system remains up to date and secure, so that the school can focus its time on what it does best: teaching.

The result

Växjö Montessori School now has a website that brings together primary school, after-school care and pupil welfare in one place, allowing visitors to experience the school’s warm atmosphere even before their first contact. With a clear structure, original photographs and a direct link to the application form, new families are given a reassuring picture of what the school stands for.
